R&D Director – Biotech – Liège


Our client is a preclinical stage biotechnology company developing its own technology platform for the treatment of all diseases caused by amyloid fibers , ie diseases characterised by the presence of insoluble protein deposits in tissues - the main organs affected are liver, kidney, heart, gastrointestinal tract, skin, peripheral nerve and eye and the central nervous system – the company’s first target is Amyloidosis , a severe disease that can evolve into the functional impairment of affected organs. Other amyloid fibers mediated diseases include Alzheimer disease, Parkinson disease, type 2 diabetes or biofilms, and several other rare and severe diseases

In 2021, the company successfully completed a €18.3 million Series A financing round. This funding is carried out by Noshaq with the backing of Mérieux Participations, Sambrinvest and other private investors, and non-dilutive funding from DG06.

Due to their grow, they are looking for a R&D Director to structure and lead the scientific team.


As R&D Director, you will be in charge of the management of the team of experts in order to reach the defined scientific targets.

Your previous experience in the industry will also help you to implement a structure to comply with demanding standards.

You will report to the CSO.

Your responsibilities will be:

  • You will be in charge of the definition and the implementation of a project plan for R&D activities in alignment with CSO.
  • You will ensure a good partnership with external partners: regularly review the data, actively set the priorities with them, etc.
  • As People Manager, you will plan regular face-to- face and project meetings in order to monitor project and people motivation.
  • As Project Leader, you will define milestones and follow-up indicators
  • You will manage the day-to-day R&D team activities: writing reports, develop SOP’s, etc.
  • You will link with and report to CSO about timing, budget, resources, etc.
  • You will contribute to feed the pipe of new projects in alignment with the company Management Team


  • You own a PhD degree in science, preferably in Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, etc.
  • You have acquired experience in the industry in R&D or Preclinical department (mandatory).
  • You have shown ability to provide clear direction and define priorities and goals to a (R&D) team .
  • You are a natural leader with favor for empowerment.
  • You encourage continuous improvement initiatives.
  • You demonstrate values of integrity, agility, flexibility, courage and patience and promote staff engagement and development.
  • You have the ability to move from hands-on responsibilities to more strategic ones.
  • You have very good command of English. French is a plus.
